Scrumptious Classic Green Bean Casserole

Green been casserole is one of my absolute favorite side dishes. I like it so much that I don’t just have it on special occasions. I often make it randomly when I am craving some scrumptious green bean casserole. My kids aren’t big fans. They would rather eat plain green beans. My husband doesn’t like it either, so I get the whole casserole to myself.

During the holidays, at my parent’s house, there is always a big discussion over whether we need to make both the green bean casserole and the broccoli and rice casserole with cheese whiz. We always make both because I fight for green bean casserole and my siblings prefer the broccoli and rice casserole with cheese whiz. (Here is a healthier version of the broccoli and rice casserole, in case you were wanting to make it without that horrible cheese whiz).

You have to use French’s crispy fried onions for this recipe. In my opinion, nothing can be substituted. Some people mix in some of the crispy friend onions, but I think that’s just wrong. They are supposed to be crispy, not soggy, and so they only belong on the top.

As for the green beans, I always used canned green beans, but you could substitute frozen. I think I prefer the cut over the French style, but you can use either for this recipe. (I have had green bean casserole many different ways, and I have a lot of opinions about this dish).
