Ordering Groceries Online is a Game Changer

I highly recommend ordering groceries online, either for delivery or pick up.  Let’s face it, going to the grocery store with 3 kids is a disaster show and ninety nine percent of the time I forget something. Now, I sit down every Saturday night to order groceries. I go to Hy-Vee Aisles Online and the Sams Club app and order my groceries for pick up on the following Monday.

Ordering from Hy-Vee

Hy-Vee has a nice website and they will have frequently purchased items at the top of the page when you search. One cool feature they have is a recipe index with the ability to add the ingredients directly to your online cart. Hy-Vee charges $2.95 for pick up if you spend less than $30, otherwise it’s free. Delivery charge is $9.95 and you have to spend more than $30 in order to qualify for delivery. After you have added all of your groceries to your cart, go to check out. Pick your store and then your pick up or delivery time. It also gives you a choice for substitutions if something you ordered is out of stock. Then put in your credit card information and place your order.

Hy-Vee will send you and email and a text when your groceries are ready.  The email will tell you your total as well as if there was anything out of stock and any substitutions that were made. Now all that is left is to go to Hy-Vee, park in the designated spot, and call the number that is listed on the sign in the parking lot. They bring your groceries to your car and load them for you. Oh, and if you’re new to aisles online, enter promo code WELCOME and get 10% off your first order.

In my experience, Hy-Vee has fantastic customer service. They are always cheerful when loading up my groceries, even if the temperature is below zero. Also, they almost always pick out good produce. Initially, I was leery of letting someone else pick my produce, probably because I am a bit of a control freak, but they do a really good job. There has been the rare instance where the cantaloupe they got me was too ripe, but overall, I am extremely satisfied.

Ordering from Sam’s Club

As for the Sam’s Club app, go to the app, login, pick your Sam’s Club location and just start adding things to your cart.  It does have a list of your frequently ordered items, which makes your life easier, especially if you order often. Once you have added all of your groceries and you go to check out, you then select a date and time for pick up and then slide to pay.  It is super simple. Plus it is free.

When you are ready to go pick up your groceries, go to the app and check to see if your groceries are ready. From my experience, my Sam’s Club almost always has my groceries ready earlier than my chosen pick up time.  On the app, before you get to the store, select check in. This tells the store that you are on your way. Once you get to Sam’s Club you go to their pick up area. Go to your app and click select a spot. I usually do not have to do this since they are watching for me. Most of the time, as soon as I pull in, they bring out my groceries. However, on occasion I have had to wait 10 minutes. Their employees are always friendly when loading up my groceries and my produce has always been great.

Ordering Groceries Online is Amazing

I can grocery shop in the comfort of my own home. You know, without having to chase kids down the aisles or worry about what junk they put in the cart when I wasn’t looking. I feel like I spend less money since I don’t impulsively buy things, like I would if I went into the store. Also, I don’t have to shower or look presentable.  It’s fabulous! Honestly, my youngest probably doesn’t even know what the inside of a grocery store looks like. She is 2 years old and I have been ordering groceries online since she was born. If small talk with strangers in the grocery store is not your thing, you want to save time and money, and you don’t want to have to take your kids into the store with you, then you just hit the jackpot with online ordering.
