Honey Garlic Pizza Dough
We love pizza in our house, but frozen pizza has too many preservatives and processed junk in it. We make our own, homemade pizza using this pizza dough recipe. Now, my kids will only eat my homemade pizza.
I think we probably make this pizza dough once a week. Some of my favorite recipes that use this honey garlic pizza dough are Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza and Stromboli.

It is super easy to make this dough in a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment. I also love having my shield for the mixer so that flour doesn’t go everywhere. If you don’t have a stand mixer and a dough hook, no problem, you can just mix the ingredients in a bowl and knead it by hand for 10 minutes.
This is a freezer friendly recipe. It’s nice to have dough ready to go in the freezer or better yet, an already assembled, homemade pizza. That’s my kind of frozen pizza. You can make a bunch of personal sized pizzas and freeze them too. This is a great meal for my husband to make for himself for lunch or for the kids when I am working. He just has to plan ahead a little since he would have to thaw the pizza in the refrigerator overnight.
PrintHoney Garlic Pizza Dough
- Total Time: 20 minutes
- Yield: 8 servings 1x
Description
This is the best pizza dough. We probably make it once a week. It smells fantastic, in fact, my 8 year old often will smell it from the other room and yell, “We are having pizza aren’t we?”
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup warm water (110 to 115 degrees)
- 1 (1/4 oz) package active dry yeast, this is equivalent to 1 1/2 teaspoons yeast
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons herb infuse olive oil, you can substitute extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/4 cups unbleached all purpose flour
Instructions
-
Heat the water in a saucepan on the stove until it reaches 110 degrees. This only takes a few minutes.
-
Pour water into the bowl of a stand mixer. Add yeast and honey and mix well. Let sit for about 5 minutes until the yeast foams.
-
Add olive oil, granulated garlic and sea salt and stir. Using a dough hook attachment on low speed add the flour gradually, about 1 cup at a time, until all flour is added. Once a dough starts to form, turn up the speed to medium. Mix on medium speed for about 5 minutes. (You can knead the dough by hand for 10 minutes if you do not have a stand mixer and dough hook).
-
Grease a large bowl with a little olive oil.
-
Take dough out of the bowl and knead the dough a few times, then form into a ball. Place it in the greased bowl, turning once to coat the dough. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
-
Now the dough is ready to use for bacon cheeseburger pizza, stromboli, calzones, or you can freeze it to use at a later time.
Notes
Two Options to Freeze:
Option 1: Put it in a gallon freezer bag, remove as much as as possible, and freeze it. When you are ready to use it: Thaw the dough in the refrigerator until completely thawed. Use within a couple of days of thawing.
Option 2: You can also assemble a pizza. Spread dough on a parchment lined pizza pan, add your favorite sauce and toppings and flash freeze it for 3 or 4 hours. Once fully frozen, remove it from the pan, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and then in foil. When you are ready to eat it: Take it out of the freezer, unwrap it and place it on a pizza pan sprayed with cooking spray. Cover it will plastic wrap and put in the fridge to thaw overnight. Bake as directed for whatever pizza recipe you are using, adding a couple of minutes if necessary. The pizza recipe I like says to bake at 450 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes.
