Asparagus is one of my favorite vegetables. My oldest loves it too. We have a small asparagus patch in our back yard. I am hoping to take some more wild asparagus from the road ditch one of these days and transplant it into my garden. We love asparagus many ways, but this instant pot asparagus is a really quick and easy way to steam asparagus. To steam this asparagus I have tried using a steamer basket and tried putting it directly in the water. I would recommend using a steamer basket if you have one.

You could use this process to steam other fast cooking vegetables too, like broccoli, peas, or cauliflower. (Who likes cauliflower anyway. It is like my least favorite vegetable. I think I would take brussel sprouts over cauliflower, and I really don’t like brussel sprouts either.) If you are wondering about cooking other vegetables in the instant pot, check out this guide. This instant pot asparagus is a great place to start.

Description

This asparagus is so good.  We could eat it for every meal.  The instant pot makes it easy and quick.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound asparagus
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons extra light olive oil
  • Sea salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash the asparagus and then break off the woody end of the asparagus. To do this, hold the asparagus close to each end and bend it until it snaps. Throw away the bottom end.

  2. Pour 1 cup water into the instant pot. Add a steamer basket if you have one, otherwise you can just put the asparagus right in the water. Asparagus ready to be steamed in the instant pot
  3. Place the lid on the instant pot and press the steam button. Cook for 0 minutes. (I know, this seems weird, but when it pressurizes and then depressurizes it will cook the asparagus perfectly.)
  4. When it beeps, do a quick release. Take asparagus out, place it in a dish, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
