Description

This is the best pizza dough. We probably make it once a week.  It smells fantastic, in fact, my 8 year old often will smell it from the other room and yell, “We are having pizza aren’t we?”

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 cup warm water (110 to 115 degrees)
  • 1 (1/4 oz) package active dry yeast, this is equivalent to 1 1/2 teaspoons yeast
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons herb infuse olive oil, you can substitute extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/4 cups unbleached all purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Heat the water in a saucepan on the stove until it reaches 110 degrees. This only takes a few minutes.

  2. Pour water into the bowl of a stand mixer. Add yeast and honey and mix well. Let sit for about 5 minutes until the yeast foams.

  3. Add olive oil, granulated garlic and sea salt and stir. Using a dough hook attachment on low speed add the flour gradually, about 1 cup at a time, until all flour is added. Once a dough starts to form, turn up the speed to medium. Mix on medium speed for about 5 minutes. (You can knead the dough by hand for 10 minutes if you do not have a stand mixer and dough hook).

  4. Grease a large bowl with a little olive oil.

  5. Take dough out of the bowl and knead the dough a few times, then form into a ball. Place it in the greased bowl, turning once to coat the dough. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  6. Now the dough is ready to use for bacon cheeseburger pizza, stromboli, calzones, or you can freeze it to use at a later time.

Notes

Two Options to Freeze:

Option 1: Put it in a gallon freezer bag, remove as much as as possible, and freeze it. When you are ready to use it:  Thaw the dough in the refrigerator until completely thawed.  Use within a couple of days of thawing.

Option 2: You can also assemble a pizza.  Spread dough on a parchment lined pizza pan, add your favorite sauce and toppings and flash freeze it for 3 or 4 hours.  Once fully frozen, remove it from the pan, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and then in foil.  When you are ready to eat it: Take it out of the freezer, unwrap it and place it on a pizza pan sprayed with cooking spray.  Cover it will plastic wrap and put in the fridge to thaw overnight.  Bake as directed for whatever pizza recipe you are using, adding a couple of minutes if necessary.  The pizza recipe I like says to bake at 450 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes.
