Description
Fruit snacks from the store aren’t the healthiest snack for your kids, although, I will buy them occasionally. These homemade fruit snacks are healthier and delicious.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
- 2 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice
- zest of 1 orange
- zest of half a lemon
- 2 heaping cups fresh strawberries, halved
- 1 heaping cup fresh blueberries
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1/4 cup beef gelatin
Instructions
- In a blender, blend together all ingredients except beef gelatin.
- Pour mixture into a medium sauce pan. Sprinkle gelatin in and let it bloom for a minute or two. (Bloom just means the liquid is starting to soak into the gelatin and it actually looks like a brain).
- Stir the gelatin in and heat on the stove until hot. Do not boil.
- Now transfer the mixture, while it’s hot, into the fruit snack silicone molds. The droppers work really well.
Notes
If you want a really smooth fruit snack, you can strain the seeds and flesh out of your mixture before adding the gelatin. I don’t do this because I think they taste great the way they are, plus the seeds and flesh are a good source of fiber.
