Description
These french toast sticks are yummy and freezer friendly. We often make them as plain french toast versus sticks.
Ingredients
- 8 slices Texas toast bread
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
Cinnamon and Sugar Coating:
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Line two cookie sheets with foil. Spray foil generously with cooking spray.
- Cut each slice of bread into three equal strips. Set aside.
- In a large bowl mix together eggs, milk, vanilla, 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, 2 tablespoons white sugar and brown sugar.
- In a separate small bowl, mix together cinnamon and sugar for the coating.
- Dip each strip of bread into the wet mixture. Let excess drip off and place the strip on the prepared cookie sheet.
- Once all strips are done, sprinkle half the cinnamon and sugar coating mixture onto the strips. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes, switching the cookie sheets to opposite oven racks halfway through.
- After 15 minutes is up, take cookie sheets out and flip over each strip. Sprinkle the other side of each strip with the rest of the cinnamon and sugar mixture. Put cookie sheets back in the oven and bake for another 15 minutes, switching the cookie sheets to opposite oven racks halfway through again.
- Now enjoy with a little pure maple syrup or freeze.
Notes
To Freeze: Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper. Place baked french toast sticks on the parchment paper, ensuring that they are not touching. Flash freeze for 3 to 4 hours, or until they are completely frozen. Place in a freezer bag.
When ready to prepare: You can put them from frozen into the toaster and toast them until they are heated through. Another option is to wrap desired amount of french toast sticks in a paper towel and then microwave them on the defrost setting for about a minute. Turn them over and heat them on high for 30 seconds or until heated through.
